Travelling around Australia while spending time in the company of beautiful pets sounds almost like a dream too good to be true. But for retired couple Sue & Kevin from Sydney, it's a reality they get to experience each and every day.

So, what inspired the pair to swap city life for a life on the road? After 40+ years of busy working lives, Sue & Kevin realised they haven't seen nearly enough of this beautiful country. So, they sold up their home, bought a caravan, and for more than 7 years have been permanently travelling in both Australia and overseas.

How did you hear about Aussie House Sitters and what made you decide to join?

“We first heard about Aussie House Sitters whilst in our caravan which was parked in our daughter’s driveway in Canberra on a hot January day. We decided to join and quickly booked our first house sit and loved it and have continued loving it.

Our first house sit was in February 2015 at Howlong, a riverside town on the border between  New South Wales  and Victoria, and we couldn’t have picked a better house sit to start. The owners, Jim & Carol became friends and now whenever we’re near their place we call in to say hello. And we still keep in touch through Facebook as they are travellers as well.”

How has house sitting impacted or changed the way you travel?

“Because we don’t have to pay rent or caravan park fees, electricity or gas etc. we have been able to afford several overseas holidays. Some house sits also provide us with fresh eggs and vegetables which is a great bonus that also cuts living costs.”

Do you have a favourite house sit?

“Picking a favourite is like asking which is our favourite child! One that stands out was when we were allowed to have a French family we met at The Devils Marbles park their camper in the homeowner’s driveway. They spent Christmas and New Year with us and our Sydney children & grandchildren. Both the homeowners and the French family have become very good friends. We have been to France and stayed with our French friends and are going back again to see them in 2023.”

“Of all the house sits we’ve done we have only had two difficult homeowners. On both occasions, I contacted the Aussie House Sitters team who handled the situations extremely well. Most homeowners and their pets are wonderful, and we are grateful for all the good homeowners out there.

I’ve told so many people about Aussie House Sitters and some have joined including my former next door neighbour of 32 years who is now house sitting in Cootamundra NSW with us.”

What are your travel plans in the foreseeable future?

“I’m 71 and my husband is 68 and people often ask us when we are going to stop, but who would want to stop living this AMAZING life?

We have plans to house sit in the UK for 6 months next year.”
