Keen Animal Lover

51, Public Servant (Part Time)

Currently based in Hobart (Tasmania).

Responsible, honest, respectful, clean and tidy. Non smoker. Own transport (within Tasmania).

I work Mon-Wed, with a 'work from home' option if the internet is sufficiently reliable (within Tasmania),

Roughly 7 years experience as a feline foster carer.

For kittens this includes raising litters often when 'cat flu' is knocking them around, either with their Mum or where they have started eating by themselves/with a syringe . Because of my work pattern I have been able to 'de-hiss' quite a few 'spicy' kittens' where their 'socialisation window' was close to or had ended.

I have hosted adult cats that need to recover from surgery/illness, provide support/care with adjustment to changes in their living situation including permanent separation from an owner, or needing help with behaviours like litter training for potential adoption.

I can give medications, aside from injections. Reluctance is OK but if scratching or biting behaviours seem likely, then experience has taught me not to 'push' or 'chase'. Can discuss with you here.

I can manage 'basic canine' and very much enjoy their company too. My experience is nowhere near as broad, but I have owned dogs myself and 'formal' sits with dogs have gone well,

I prefer 'people orientated' dogs, as it just makes things like 'food anxiety' less of an issue if I can gently reassure that something will happen on time/schedule. Or we can have a good play/snooze together to get over the anxiety of the change in routine from their owners leaving.

Unfortunately I don't have the capacity to deal with 'reactive' dogs. As while I do OK, its a bit too stressful to take on.

Can also manage birds, fish and other 'beasties', providing its not too complex. Willing to have a go at most things. Except for horses where my skills are too rusty.

I can keep plants watered (inside/outside) and can do basic gardening/household tasks to keep your place running 'day-to-day'.

Please feel free to get in touch if you think we are a 'good fit'. I would love to hear from you and am happy to answer relevant questions.

Lastly, there is a bit more detail below, which is not essential but explain my 'ethos' and what type of sits I am currently looking for :)
-----------------------

Some of the reasons why I housesit:

- a strong love of animals and an abundance of TLC to give. especially cats, but I am a softie for pretty much anything

- genuinely want to give others a chance to take 'time out' for whatever it is they need with less 'stress' knowing things are OK back at home

- a desire to explore and enjoy my surrounds in a 'slow way' so part-day trips then relaxing with your pets, walks out with dogs in the local area are what I enjoy

- be the kind of sitter I would want for my own pets/home,

- commitment to a 'fair trade' for sitters and hosts, I'll try and work with you for a fantastic sit for you, me and any/all of the menagerie you might have.

-----------------------
Here's my availability, and thanks for reading this far:

- outside Tasmania sits +1-2 week in duration, need notice to schedule flights, this is a new thing so please be up for a bit more communication :)

- within Tasmania up to 2 weeks in duration, with shorter sits preferred. More than 1 hour from Pontville up to 3 hours is ideal.

Having said that, it seems sitters within Tasmania are currently a bit scare where a pet needs a bit more attention/care.

So while this is hard to put into words without sounding 'precious', if you live local and have a place nearby with a great location, or can help with petrol costs to get further away please feel free to message. Its tough having to turn down sits on much of the NW coast for instance, but sadly 'cost of living' is now a definite thing.

Also if you are looking for a local sitter for a few days because of something like a family emergency or having to go into hospital then please reach out. Just in case I am available and can help.

I absolutely love Amanda! She is the cat whisperer Queen. We have an old cat who needs daily medication and a special diet. Amanda is very confident and experienced with sick cats, and knows how to handle them, and what signs to monitor. My cat was very happy and relaxed when I got home, despite having diarrhoea over the weekend. Amanda left the house spotless, with a couple of pet and human treats on the kitchen table. She knew exactly what our cat would love, and had some great tips and ... MORE

JENNIFER (Devonport TAS TAS, Apr 2024 - 2 nights)
Amanda was outstanding from start to finish. I couldn't have asked for a more efficient and careful sitter. Thank you Amanda, you are welcome back anytime!

SUSAN (Cornwall TAS, Apr 2024 - 3 nights)
One of the best house sitter we have had. She looked after our home very well, and most importantly, gave our 2 cats the best love and cuddles. Amanda will always be welcome to come around for cat cuddles, she is just a lovely person. And left us a lovely present when we got home. We highly recommend Amanda to anyone! Thanks again Amanda, you've been great to communicate with!

LOUELLA (Riverside TAS, Mar 2024 - 5 nights)
Amanda was fantastic. She was awesome to talk to and super adaptable and considerate. She sent us lots of photos and took great care of the animals and garden.

JAKE AND KATE (West Launceston TAS, Feb 2024 - 3 nights)
Amanda took great care of my house and garden. It was reassuring to know that my house was in safe hands. I came home to a clean and tidy house and some generous gifts that she left for me. I can highly recommend her for any house sitting jobs.

ROBERT (New Norfolk TAS, Feb 2024 - 5 nights)
Amanda was great at keeping in touch with updates and concerns. We have an extensive garden to care for which she managed well and everything was lush and green on our arrival back home. Our home was well cared for and clean and we have no hesitation in recommending her for future house sits.

HAZEL (Rosetta TAS, Jan 2024 - 2 weeks 1 night)
Amanda was the perfect house sitter. She took excellent care of our house - leaving it sparkling clean and with milk in the fridge for our late return after a long day of travel., She got on extremely well with Pinto who is normally very shy with newcomers. Amanda communicated regularly and sent us photos and videos of our contented cat. I would recommend Amanda for any house sits.
