House Sitting needed 1 Sept to 19 Sept, 2026.

Our house is a well lived in, older single story country Queensland home. Enjoy the acreage without the isolation. We are on just shy of 2 acres. You can see your neighbours’ houses but still enjoy the quiet, with an ability to make noise if you wish without bothering anyone. The location means you can see the gorgeous spray of stars at night (including Southern Cross and Milky Way) without excessive light pollution. No need to stress about people seeing in your windows if you forget to draw the curtains. We have solar power, gas heating and cooking, ceiling fans, washer / dryer and plenty of parking, including EV charging.

You are walking distance to the show grounds, so check out whether any events are on down there during your stay. If any events at the show grounds involve fireworks, set up some chairs out the front lawn or driveway and enjoy from there. We highly recommend you set those chairs up routinely as the sunsets from the front door are a beauty to behold.
You can spread out across four bedrooms, two bathrooms and two living areas. The bedrooms are equipped with one Queen in the main, two with king singles, and one with a single bed. We can also leave out two porta cots if required (no idea how I ended up with two over the years).

Enjoy the trampoline, gardens, a full size soccer net, or scale the walls of the empty dam in the back paddock (no longer fills after council changes to waterways and housing developments, so no dam safety concerns required). Use the indoor fireplace allows you to warm house and heart, or sit outside and use the mini moveable firepit or outdoor fixed firepit (near trampoline) to indulge in country living, toasted marshmallows and star gazing. Feel free to make use of the piano, WiFi, TVs, porta cots, towel heater (in main ensuite), and broad variety of books on the bookshelves.

Key recommendations: Must go check out The Baker’s Duck. Highly recommend Ice n Spice Indian, Durbar (Nepalese), Piccolo Papa (pizza and pasta) and Kuro Beku Japanese for dinner.
Highly recommend The Burrow and De Dutch Café for breakfast. Wine recommendations include: Piccolo Papa, Cork n Lever, Press’d, Preston Peak and Preston Manor.
OR, if mornings are more your vibe, head to Saturday farmers markets at Cobb n Co to taste test Homestead Gin (they also do tours and cellar door testings via appointment) and Toowoomba Hills wines, as well as getting fresh fruit and vege.

Take a trip out to Crows Nest. Myrtille Bistro *MUST reserve table ahead of time. If booked out during your stay, still make the trip and visit their baby sister store My Little Blueberry next door for take away coffee and Parisian pastries and cakes.

You will have access to a lot of incredible bush walks in Crows Nest, Highfields, Ravensbourne, Redwood Park to the North. And, Picnic Point, Preston, Allora, Goomburra, Girraween to the South. If heading South, ensure you make time for (a few) day trips to Stanthorpe. Camping, wineries, and depending on the season country events abound. If looking to overnight, we recommend the tiny, no frills bed and breakfast called Twinstar Guesthouse at Ballandean. This accommodation only has three double rooms BUT offers incredible bonus services you will not find anywhere else including star gazing tips, star gazing binoculars and home-cooked set menu (often Japanese Bento Box) dinner delivered to your room. Girraween National Park and Stanthorpe township both only 15 mins drive. Alternatively, check out Happy Valley Retreat at Stanthorpe providing a brewery option to those looking to take a break from the wines. You must book early if visiting during winter when the town thrives offering snow on occasion, but always Christmas in July events, Jazz and Jumpers in July, Winter Winery Soirees, Truffle Discovery tours, Pick your own Strawberries or Apple tours, Snowflakes in Stanthorpe in July, performances by Opera Queensland among the vines (google for programs) and for something a bit different the Leyburn Sprints (car racing). For the mountain biker, we also have tracks up and down the Great Dividing Range within easy access of our property.

For guests able to care for our property this September, we do have two dogs who live outside but may try to convince you otherwise 😜 The pups in question are pictured.

You will be visiting our region during the lead up to Carnival of Flowers. You will be able to enjoy all of the amazing parks and gardens in our region, as well as many of the open private gardens that allows visitors during Carnival only. You may even join the World Record Attempt on your final day Friday 18 Sept, an ambitious attempt to bring more than 938 people dressed as Toowoomba Violets together into Queens Park.
