Our home

We are hoping to get away for a short break in May, realising it's very late notice.

We live in a modern home, right in central Daylesford with fabulous bush views. This sit is not suitable for families with young children as the dogs can be quite boisterous, sorry! We are also on the edge of the forest, so would prefer a non-smoking sitter/s without any pets of their own.

We need a dog lover, (preferably someone with whippet or sighthound experience) and someone who is just as a big a dog lover as we are. Our dogs are quite strong on lead which is why we have a preference for a couple - they can't be let off lead at all because we are on the edge of the forest and we have roos and uncovered mine shafts in the region.

If you don't like indoorsy dogs and dogs sitting on the sofa with you, then this housesit will not suit. They do need cuddles and interaction and they do need someone who understands dogs and someone who wont mind throwing a blanket over them on the colder days. They can tend to play rough (when they do play together) so I need someone who not intimidated by a dog making "Star Wars" noises LOL! They may look like they are being rough with each other, but they never fight in anger. They simply love each other and get on extremely well together.

Bonafide Housesitting References & Experience are a must:
Whilst a police check would be highly regarded, I would prefer to see actual housesitter references from this site (or other official sites) as opposed to a police check. If you live within an hour of Daylesford, we'd love to organise a meet and greet with you, if you're agreeable to travelling to Daylesford prior to the sit.

Whilst we love grey nomads and people with their own vans, our home is down a dirt track and access for large vehicles is awkward. Our driveway is steep and angled - it doesn't really have easy access for large vans etc.

Daylesford is around 80mins from Melb; 35mins from Ballarat and 50mins from Bendigo. There's plenty to see and do in the area.

We have a modern and very comfortable home with lots of natural light and all the usual household trimmings as well as a big front garden area with bocce court! We have good wifi for those who work from home.
Our return dates can be slightly flexible, so if you could only do 9 or 10 days, we would consider that also. (We do need to be away for a min. of 1 week.

We have lovely bush views, but only a short 2min drive (or 15min walk) to the main shopping area of Daylesford. The backyard is mainly decking so great for sitting and reading in the warmer weather. There's usually a sunny nook somewhere!

Need to Know:
Dogs sleep beside the main bed (in their own beds on the floor), and will need to be in the room with the sitter. They sleep well if they're covered up (and they have warm coats for this time of the year) :) Hopefully this won't be a dealbreaker. Previous sitters have said "they were no problem at all"...

Unfortunately we do have steps to gain entry to the house. There's no other option unfortunately, so you must be able to navigate 14 steps.

Daylesford is located in Central Victoria, about 80 mins from Melbourne. Daylesford is famous for its mineral springs, cafes, galleries and world class restaurants. It is very much a "tourist" mecca. If you think you can help out, please get in touch. We live in a beautiful part of the world.

Because our home is located on a dirt road and our driveway access is slightly odd, we can't offer off street parking to large caravans/mobile homes. It's just too awkward to get them up the drive - sorry.

Our house will be clean and tidy for your arrival and we just ask that it's returned to us as you find it. (fresh linen on beds; kitchen clean etc).

FINALLY - if you had any flexibility for a longer stay, please let me know when you apply. We are in a situation where we may need to extend our stay - there's a lot up in the air. The advertised dates will be great, but do let me know if you have flexibility either side of those dates when you apply.

medicationMedication/treatment required

immune booster powder 2x daily for 1 dog (Lexi). We just mix it in with a teaspoon of yogurt - it's pretty simple.

Our garden

local_floristGarden or plant care

Minimal - 4 or 5 indoor pot plants may need a water if we are away longer than a few days

About us

person Linda

We are dog lovers to have family interstate. We like to get away every now and then. Whippets don't do well in kennels and we need sitters who will throw a rug over them if they get cold.

Another great sit for Linda and Frank in their beautiful home. It was lovely to come back for some more whippet love from Beau and Lexi who are such great company and who loved their walks. Sad to say goodbye to them but luckily we'll be seeing them again in March.

We had a lovely time looking after Linda and Frank's spacious home and their two gorgeous whippets who enjoyed cuddling up with us on the couch as much as running zoomies around the garden. They enjoyed their walks around the neighbourhood and were very well behaved at night. Linda and Frank provided very helpful instructions regarding their home and dogs. We wouldn't hesitate to come again to look after the whippets.
Thanks Catherine - Frank and I would be happy to have you back anytime! You did a great job. Now I'm trying to plan my next holiday! See you again sometime soon (hopefully!).
