favoriteWhy I love house sitting

House sitting allows me to experience new places in a meaningful way while enjoying the companionship of pets. I miss having my own dog with me, so caring for others’ animals brings real enjoyment, routine and purpose to my travels.

I’m a recently retired UK police officer now travelling around Australia and enjoying a more flexible, outdoors-focused lifestyle. My career was built on trust, responsibility and attention to detail—qualities I bring naturally to house and pet sitting.
I’m a keen runner and cyclist, and I enjoy long walks and spending time in nature. I value a calm, tidy environment and will treat your home with respect and care at all times.

Back in the UK, I have my much-loved 8-year-old Jack Russell 'Dotty', a rescue dog who I miss dearly while travelling. She’s given me a real appreciation for animal welfare, patience and the importance of routine and reassurance for pets.
I also have practical experience caring for dogs belonging to friends and family while they’ve been away, often introducing them to my own dog. This has given me confidence managing different temperaments and ensuring animals feel comfortable, safe and well looked after.
You can expect someone dependable, communicative and genuinely invested in your pet’s wellbeing. I’m very happy to provide regular updates and photos so you have complete peace of mind while you’re away. I have my own car and happy to take your pet on little adventures if that's what they like. I have been asked if I charge anything to stay - I do not. It's a privilege to stay in someone's house and look after their pets.

Do like the occasional glass of wine but I'm a non smoker.

I’m comfortable adapting to different needs, whether that’s higher-energy exercise or a more relaxed pace.
I’m confident handling larger breeds and stronger dogs, including those that require a firm but calm approach on walks. I pay close attention to behaviour, wellbeing and environment, making sure pets feel secure and cared for at all times.
I also understand the importance of keeping a home running smoothly—managing feeding schedules, outdoor time, and general care—while being attentive to any changes in a pet’s behaviour or needs.

Highly recommended. We could not have been happier. Gary is a great house sitter, a professional person, with good social skills. He was totally absorbed in our animals. The donkeys were well looked after; he easily took over our feeding and walking routine of the 13-year-old Labrador who was taken by Gary's charm and genuine affection. The plants were watered, the lawns mowed. The house was cleaner than we left it. Gary used initiative when necessary and kept us well informed about the ... MoreHighly recommended.
