favoriteWhy I love house sitting

House sitting gives me the opportunity to explore various places, meet lovely animals and their humans, and carve out the alone time I need for my personal projects (mostly writing). Usually I work full time and rent, so I only undertake house sits while I'm travelling/relocating.

**Update, spring 2026: due to logistics, the only sits I can consider are longer sits (5wks+) in either the northern part of Adelaide, mid-north or outback South Australia. Note to SA residents: your state is STUNNING!**

Thanks for taking the time to read my profile. I'm a British-born Australian citizen and communications professional in my mid-40s, with significant house sitting experience.

I discovered house sitting more than a decade ago when I first arrived as an "old" backpacker, and found it an amazing way to forge my own path while travelling, with the bonus of experiencing the "real" Australia and meeting Aussies in the suburbs!

I've looked after houses and pets in areas including Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, Perth, Alice Springs, Coffs Harbour, Sunshine Coast, Broken Hill, Adelaide and regional South Australia and NSW; including a sit that lasted six months. I'm a highly enthusiastic dog person, but I've also cared for many cats, a handful of guinea pigs, and fish. I'm happy to look after most small animals, including snakes and possibly tarantulas.

My career background is broadcast journalism (UK - BBC, ITV; then ABC in Sydney) but I spent seven years living in Alice Springs, where I made the transition from radio to newspapers and then into communications, which I've worked in ever since.

My interests include personal development, cooking, reading, hiking, travelling, and learning about (or worrying about!) environmental issues. Fun fact: I have qualifications in skydiving and gliding, as well as my Recreational Pilot Certificate (RA-Aus) - although I'm no longer active in airsports (they require too much time and money) and these days tend to prefer watching others take to the skies at airshows.

As a communications professional I can keep you well up to date with what's happening while you're away, in a non-intrusive way (texts, pictures, email) to suit your preference. I'm practical, adaptable, reliable, and have proven capability at reacting calmly in a crisis. I'm vegetarian and environmentally (and economically) conscious, so you won't catch me leaving lights on or taps running. I reuse and recycle.

Andrea was a delight to meet and to have take care of my home, dogs and garden. She communicated regularly with photos of the dogs who were obviously having a great time. She did what I had asked in looking after the garden and left the house clean and tidy. I'd be delighted to have Andrea housesit for me any time, as would my two dogs, Ollie and Reba.
Andrea was a fantastic house sitter. She was very well organised and left the house spotless. She was asked to review incoming mail and decide which letters appeared to be important. These she photographed and sent to us. The remainder - mostly letters begging for donations - were left for us to handle when we got back. She had no trouble adapting to the house and made friends with various neighbours. We would have no hesitation having her again.
Andrea was amazing, she took such good care of our westie Ruby and the house was spotless as well, I am certain that anyone that has secured her to sit for them will not be disappointed ☺️
Andrea was a wonderful house sitter. The cats were very well cared for and obviously very comfortable with her. Communication was excellent and she dealt with a couple of unexpected issues efficiently and thoughtfully. Highly recommended.
Andrea is wonderful! So much so she feels like a friend now :) Andrea went over and above to help us out during our housesit. Regular communication, pics and updates. Pets were very happy (pretty sure they resented Andrea leaving haha) and house was clean upon our return. Zero hesitation recommending Andrea for future housesits - if housesitting were a profession, Andrea has it on lock. Thank you again! :)
This was the first time had used a house sitter, and we struck “Gold” when Andrea answered our ad. Andrea was a great communicator, we spoke on the phone a couple of months before going away, then we had a meet up a month before going away where she met us and our beloved dog, Archie. We were away for 4.5 weeks, and she looked after our home like it was her own, it was spotless when we got home and looked as though we'd never left. Andrea kept us up to date with everything that was happening with the house and dogs. Andrea did need to deal with an issue regarding enviro cycle which we were able to repair after phone calls. The dogs both loved Andrea and she took them on lots of walks and outings. They were both in good condition when we returned home. The house was neat tidy and clean when we got home. We came home to two very happy cats and a very clean and tidy house. Andrea was a delight to have stay. Andrea was extremely easy to communicate with. She kept us updated on all relevant matters both prior to and during her stay with us. I would not hesitate to recommend Andrea to anyone seeking a friendly, caring, reliable house sitter.
Andrea took such great care of our german shepherd Zeus! She went above and beyond taking Zeus on regular walks and giving him so much love and attention. We received regular updates and photos while we were away which reassured us he was happy. When we got home we came home to a beautifully clean house and a very happy puppy! Thanks so much Andrea ☺️

Andrea came to the Sunshine Coast all the way from ACT and stayed 8 wks. With her excellent references and good communi ation we had confidence she would take the responsibility of our animals and the care of our home diligently. We met in person, she met the pets and we left it up to her. She met Hugh's activity needs perfectly giving him beach and ball play, dog parks and frequent walks daily. We loved having Andrea look after our high energy 5 month puppy. Nothing was too much trouble for her. Great communication leading up to and the week we were away. It was so lovely to come home to a beautifully clean house and a happy dog. Would highly recommend Andrea to anyone who needs a house sitter.
This was the first time we had used a pet sitter and we were a bit nervous considering we were away for nearly a month. From the first phone conversation to coming home we felt very comfortable with Andrea. The house was kept very clean and tidy, there was constant communication from Andrea with photos of our animals and when we arrived home it was to an immaculate house and very relaxed cats. I could tell they were very well looked after. I would 100% recommend Andrea if you need a pet sitter.
