Pet loving University lecturer

62, university lecturer

I will be going to the UK all going to plan 3 May and not sure if my return as yet. I'll update my profile upon my return.

I am a very well travelled, English language university lecturer (now only doing casual/relief teaching), who owns an apartment in Mosman Park. Although I had done some housesitting previously from time to time mainly in Perth, I really fully utilised housesitting in 2015 while studying to finish a Master degree at the Australian National University in Canberra and I've continued off and on from there.

After completing my degree, I went overseas and had a wonderful time housesitting in Spain and the UK, where I taught at Cambridge University over the summer. I returned to Australia and then went to Nauru Island in the South Pacific to teach refugees until Dec, 2016.

Until the end of Oct 2018, I was teaching on a casual basis in Canberra at ANU College and teaching refugees and new migrants with Navitas and housesitting so I could go on writing a very drawn out book!

Now I am back in my home base of Perth and am quite addicted to housesitting one way or the other! I love experiencing living in different suburbs and most importantly, being able to have the company of lots of lovely and loving pets. New, attractive home environments often help inspire me to go on writing as well - a change being as good as a break!

As I continue to housesit in West Australia, I am seeking to develop a network of house/pet owners so I can go on housesitting long into the future. After finally selling one property, I have moved into my Mosman Park apartment. It's in a great location, but I don't like to keep pets in confined spaces, and with housesitting I can be a Granpetter (?) and still enjoy the company of animals without the long term responsibility! Also, with housesitting I can feel
I can go on with my beloved traveling, even though confined by our WA border!

I've also been thinking I would like experience managing Airbnb accommodation on site. I have noticed that some housesits involve maintaining Airbnbs while the owners are away in return for some financial remuneration,...so if you have an Airbnb and are hoping to go away for a spell, think of me!

In my time housesitting, I have looked after a wide variety of dogs, cats, horses, exotic birds, reptiles, a pig and chickens! I've helped in training a young lab, and had to give daily medication, including pills, to dogs, cats and horses. Some rescued animals in particular had personality issues reacting badly to other dogs and so on, which I coped with well. I've had to take animals occasionally to vets - one emergency, otherwise routine, fortunately all survived (most notable was a large cross breed dog suffering from paralysis in its back legs after a tick bite - speedy intervention saved her!) I previously looked after two sickly cats who both took pill medication twice a day and one had to have weekly visits to the vet for cancer treatment.

I enjoy weeding when it comes to gardens if I have the time, as I find it very relaxing. I am also accustomed to tending/watering veggie gardens, looking after pools and mowing.

Because I love housesitting so much and take it very seriously, I am extremely conscientious and give above average attention to the houses, animals and gardens in my care as my numerous 5 star housesitting references concur. You can see some more of my references from Trustedhousesitters.com, which is an international housesitting site, and Mindahome.com.au in my photograph section on this site or on the Web sites themselves- I can provide links.

For teaching at ANU College and Canberra Institute of Technology (Navitas) while studying in 2015 in Canberra, I had to have police checks done, plus I have a valid Australian Working With Vulnerable People clearance For ACT & NSW. I also have police clearances for Australia, UK, Japan, and Oman up to 2010 which were necessary for gaining permanent residency for the USA. I had received a police and working with vulnerable people clearance for teaching at Cambridge University. Most recently I had to have a medical and police check for teaching on Nauru, and then with a Carer organisation in Canberra. I now have police and Working with Children clearances for WA.

I have had an ongoing connection with Zanzibar, Tanzania, volunteering and organising other volunteers, as well as being the co-organiser of a project to bring 40 donated computers to a village from Oman in 2010. Also see Volunteering Zanzibar Facebook which I oversee. You can find my resume of work and life experience on Linkedin.

Phew, enough about me - I just keep adding to this but it needs a "good trim"! I look forward to hearing from you if you think we can help each other out :)

I highly recommend Sarah if you are looking for a house sitter. Sarah looked after our home and dogs for 4 weeks over the Christmas period and I couldn't be happier, We arrived home to find our home beautifully clean and tidy, the garden and pool were well looked after, not an easy task in the middle of summer, and our dogs were healthy and happy!! What more could I ask for!! Communication was great and Sarah sent us plenty of photos of our dogs and regular updates. I would definitely love to ... MORE

Halls Head/Mandurah is just a most beautiful part of the world and your home was ideally placed to enjoy everything. So thank you all for a great holiday ... MORE

HELEN (South Fremantle WA, Aug 2021 - 15 days)
We would highly recommend Sarah. We came home to a clean and tidy house and a happy and healthy dog. We received regular communication and photos of our dog. Something we started to really look forward to during our time away. Thank you Sarah.

JOHN AND SUE (COOGEE WA, Jul 2021 - 2 weeks 1 day)
Thank you' it was an absolute pleasure to look after the charismatic, gorgeous Peppa - I'm just a little bit biased as I love Staffies ❤️, but she really is a cutie and very well behaved - in your lovely home.
Sarah was just so lovely with Jack our greyhound, he had beautiful long walks along the coast and she sent us photos and updates on how the two of them were enjoying themselves. Sarah also stayed late in the evening to keep Jack company until I returned from work. She was so accommodating and patient with us as it was a short and last minute house sit. THANK YOU SARAH! Would be delighted to have her back again in the future.

NICOLE (Mosman Park WA, Jul 2021 - 1 night)
Sarah was a delight to communicate with from start to finish and during a snap COVID lockdown mid house sit! We came back to a super clean house and a happy and relaxed dog. Would recommend Sarah as an ideal house sitter!

Sarah is a delightful person with a lovely personality and very capable of taking care of your house, garden and pets. We returned home to the house and garden looking wonderful and a happy cat who told us lots of stories about her stay. We would definitely recommend Sarah to anyone who's looking for a sitter she is a lovely person who likes to communicate with you and keep you up to date. We are hoping she will come again another day.

ROSLYN (Shoalwater WA, Mar 2021 - 8 days)
Thanks so much Ros (and Peluche! ;)
Sarah was great! Our dog adored her and our house was left in lovely condition. Whilst we were only away for a few days, Sarah kept us updated on how our pets were and advised us of an unexpected plumbing issue (insisting that we didn't pay long weekend call out fees, but meant we were prepared for some diy on our return) Thank you Sarah! We had a lovely time away knowing that our pets and home were being taken care of :)

ELEANOR (Bayswater WA, Feb 2021 - 3 days)
Thanks, Eleanor, It was an absolute pleasure to look after the adorable Barley and your talkative feline! I loved the park by the river so close to your house and being the centre of attention walking Mr Cutie :)
Sarah has excelled in her house sitting role. We could not have asked for more. Our pets were looked after beautifully, and all seemed to have taken to her well, especially our cat who very rarely accepts somebody new. Sarah kept us in touch by sending photographs which quelled any concerns we may have had. The house and garden were well looked after, When we had the sudden hot spell. Sarah watered the garden and everything was still in tip top condition on our return. We would gladley ... MORE

ANGELA (Byford WA, Oct 2020 - 1 week 4 days)
Sarah looked after our Ragdoll cat and mini lop bunny while we were on holiday. Sarah has excellent communication skills and kept us well informed. She handled stressful moments with grace (like when the power went out on her first night!). She bonded with our demanding pets (the "odd couple") and followed all the complicated instructions without any problems. I am delighted to say that the house was cleaner when we got home than when we left. We would definitely love to have Sarah look after ... MORE

JUNE (Warnbro WA, Jul 2020 - 2 weeks)
What a delight to look after the amusing cat+bunny combination! Summer, the Ragdoll cat, is so unbelievably cute, gentle and enjoys a bit of loving, which isn't always the case with cats, so I made the most of her warming my lap :) Em, the Mini Lop bunny, always kept me guessing, but it didn't take ... Sarah was an excellent communicator & very reliable. Our home was taken good care of & we would highly recommend Sarah for future house sits..

What a lovely spot to stay in amazing Esperance! With a tranquil view of a lake and no neighbours in sight, this is an ideal place for a back-to-nature, contemplative retreat. Enjoy the silence, birdlife and keeping a cosy stove fire going if your stay is in winter. Robert and Wendy are friendly, ... MORE

Hoping we have the chance to call on her services again, thank you so much Sarah!

CHARLIE (Busselton WA, Dec 2018 - 2 days)
No rating What good fortune for us to have Sarah volunteer to sit during Xmas, a difficult time of year to find "staff" for the fur babies. We could not have been more pleased, all pets happy at the end of the sit and a cleaned house as well. Thank you Sarah.
JENNY ( Batemans Bay NSW, Dec 2017 - 2 days)
No rating Sarah was a fantastic house and pet sitter for us while we went overseas. The most important thing to us that our dogs were looked after and happy, and that's exactly how Sarah treated them. She regularly sent us updates on how the dogs were going. Although not asked of, Sarah cleaned some spots of the house which hadn't been tended to in a while, and with us having two young kids this was very much appreciated! I would highly recommend Sarah to house and/or pet sit for anyone as she is very ... MORE
RACHAEL (Chisholm ACT, Dec 2017 - 1 week 1 day)
No rating Sarah looked after our two spoilt rhodesian ridgebacks for a month. It would have been a challenging house sit, what with their daily walks involving an aggressive off-lead dog rushing them and a kangaroo taunting them mere metres away. Our priority was for someone to love them and to be at home with them often. Sarah did this and we are very grateful to her. It was apparent from their relative calmness on our return and from the numerous reports from neighbours. Thank you Sarah - same time ... MORE
JANE (Latham / Canberra ACT, Nov 2017 - 4 weeks)

No rating Sarah was a wonderful house sitter who took great care of our house, garden and dog. She was very communicative and eager to make sure she understood what was needed, and gave us regular updates that helped ensure peace of mind. We arrived home to a house that seemed to be cleaner than we left it, and a dog who was exetremely relaxed. Highly recommended!
ISOBEL (Evatt ACT, Jan 2017 - 5 days)
No rating Sarah looked after my Canberra house and little cat for a week in January while I was in Sydney. She was very conscientious, sending me updates, letting me know how the cat was going, and checking with me if any questions. She did more than was required, in that she worked in my neglected garden weeding and clearing. What a surprise when I returned. She also watered regularly, in very hot weather. My house was left clean and neat, the cat very happy. I highly recommend Sarah as a house sitter.
CHRISSIE SHAW (Hackett ACT, Jan 2017 - 1 week)
No rating Sarah did a wonderful job of caring for our home and garden while we were away. It was lovely to return to a thriving vegie garden, in spite of the heat, and a clearer and tidier outdoor area than we had left! Our house was clean, tidy and welcoming after a long trip home.
JEANIE AND DAVID (Frogs Hollow NSW, Dec 2016)
No rating Sarah stayed at our home and also used my car for a period of 1 week. She cared beautifully for our animals and our home. She was respectful, Clean and very nice. I left her food but she insisted on replacing what she ate and even left some lovely foods behind. Sarah would be welcome to stay in our home any time. It was also lovely spending some time with her when we got back.
RACHAEL (Boonah QLD, Sep 2016 - 5 days)
No rating Sarah house sat for us for the first time in September, for a period of one week. We couldn;t have been more pleased with our choice! She sent us regular email updates (including pics), detailing her activities with our furry family, and we returned to an imacculately clean house, and happy animals! She had an obvious affection for our dogs and I'm pretty sure they felt the same way. I wouldn't hesitate to use Sarah again, or to recommend her to others.
ALAN AND KIMBERLY (Cannon Hill QLD, Sep 2016)

No rating Sarah looked after our house, but more importantly all our animals for a period of 4 weeks. We were able to relax and enjoy our holiday knowing everyone was in good hands. We have numerouse aviaries and Parrots all with individual dietry requirements. Sarah was efficient with her note taking and made sure she had all instructions clear before we left. VICKI LILLEY (Kambah, Canberra, Jan 2015)
No rating Sarah and her daughter Moana house and dog-sit for my husband and my Fremantle home last December holiday. We have only good things to say about them. Our 4 year old dog is very energetic, a bit spoiled and therefore can be seen as high maintenance... They treated him like a prince, took him to the beach and park daily and I can honestly say he looked out the window for them for a few days after we returned as he and Moana seemed to be buds. The house was well maintained, mail was taken ... MORE
