Scott and Jenny
We are in our 60’s, we retired at the end of 2019 and have rented out our home in Gympie, Qld to travel in our caravan indefinitely. We have 2 grown sons, one in Darwin in the Army and one in Brisbane who works for Lexus.
SCOTTS WORK EXPERIENCE: Scott’s trade is as a butcher. He worked in various butcher shops in Gympie up until 1996 when we opened our own shop, McIntosh Meats, in Gympie. In 1999 we won the Gympie Chamber of Commerce Movers and Shakers Award. We sold the butcher shop in 2007 and with our 2 boys headed off on a 9 month trip around Australia, to recharge the batteries. On our return to Gympie Scott obtained employment with the local council, Gympie Regional Council, first on the road gang but soon was offered the position of groundsman at One Mile Ovals. This position entailed cricket wicket preparation, soccer field preparation, weed control, fertilising, mowing (front deck and tractor) brush cutting, general gardening, management of automatic watering system. He holds a Certificate III in Horticulture specialising in Turf Management. He held this position for 12 years until he retired in December 2019.
JENNY’S WORK EXPERIENCE: Jenny started her working career with the Bank of New South Wales now known as Westpac. After 25 years with the Bank she left to start a family. When the butcher shop opened she worked part-time in the shop serving and did the book work and administration for the shop. On return from the trip around Australia in 2007 she gained employment at Alma Street Pre-Prep, a local Gympie kindergarten, as the Administration Assistant. This job entailed all aspects of running a small business and she was the first point of contact for families enrolling their children in kindergarten. Jenny retired from this position in October 2019 after 11 years in the job.
LIFE EXPERIENCE: We have no animals of our own. Once we decided we liked the caravanning lifestyle we decided we would be a pet free family, much to the dismay of our 2 boys! Having said that, we do love all animals and look forward to looking after everyone’s fur babies. Scott has farming experience, having spent the first 18 years of his life living on his parents cattle property at Widgee (near Gympie, Qld). We both love gardening. We are non smokers. Jenny is a Commissioner of Declarations (Qld), holds a current First Aid Certificate and Working with Children Card. 2 January 2021 Once our travels were curtailed due to COVID, we headed back to Queensland and the Wide Bay Area and holed up on family properties, and completed some housesits. We have done official housesits at Glenwood and Chevallum and have also done 3 housesits for family members. In August we headed to an Achacha Plantation (tropical fruit) near Giru in North Queensland where we worked for 12 weeks. We both did a variety of jobs around the plantation. We are sure Bruce, the part owner and manager of the plantation will verify our work ethic. Bruce can be contacted by phone. Details available on request. We did a Housesit at Hervey Bay over the Christmas period and then headed to Stanthorpe to see if we could help with the harvests. There was much coverage in the news about the lack of harvest workers/backpackers due to Covid. We have been lucky enough to pick up some work on a couple of vineyards and plan to be in this area until Easter. We are heading to Darwin for June and July.
20 September 2021 We ended up working for 9 weeks in the vineyards of Stanthorpe and have been asked to go back in January 2022 to help again. We left Stanthorpe in late March and slowly travelled to Darwin to be there in May for a housesit till the end of June. Loved it up there. We have since then been travelling back to Queensland. At present we are in Bundaberg. Scott was asked to help Bundaberg Cricket Association get their cricket wickets prepared for the start of season. We then have October booked out with housesits in the Wide Bay Area
27 January 2022
In October and November we did housesits in Wondai, Redland Bay and Bagarra Beach.
We then spent December and January travelling from Brisbane to Adelaide to Melbourne to Sydney for the Cricket Ashes Tests. That was a bucket list trip. Had a fantastic time.
We are now back in Stanthorpe netting the vines and getting ready to pick some grapes.
October 2022
We headed to Tasmania to explore for 5 months then South Australia for 2 months. We did 3 housesits in Tasmania and one in Adelaide.
June 2023
Since coming back to Qld in June 2023 we have done numerous housesits for family and friends around our home town.
We spent 5 weeks in July and August 2023 on a 25000 acre cattle property on the Maranoa River.
