We are Emmelie and Sijmen, both early thirties, from the Netherlands. We have been together for over 16 years and in 2018 we decided we'd like to take on a new challenge and broaden our horizons by moving to Australia for at least a year. We have been in the country for almost 5 years now and we love it! If people ask us which part of Australia we want to go to, we like to answer with 'ideally, all of it'!
We consider ourselves to be almost 'professional housesitters' now that we've had the pleasure of pet and house sitting continuously for the last two years after housesitting on and off in the years prior.
In the Netherlands, Sijmen used to work as a software programmer after he graduated with a Master's degree in Mathematics. Emmelie graduated in 2017 with a master in Global and European Studies. Currently, Sijmen has just completed his Master of IT at Swinburne University and is working as a Software Engineer. Emmelie is working in HR Operations.
We both like hiking and being outdoors. We have a soft spot for animals and used to have a pet rabbit! We also really enjoy sports and have played a lot of volleyball before we came to Australia. On the one hand we like to be active, but on the other hand we also really enjoy reading a book or watching a good movie/series.
We are generally very flexible with dates as well as duration of the house sit, however for the foreseeable future we would be mostly looking for (long-term) house sits in Sydney as we both have jobs there. Sijmen works in the CBD and Emmelie works in North Sydney. We both have flexible work from home schedules, with one of us being at home most days.
We have experience in looking after dogs (of all sizes), cats, guinea pigs, rabbits, sheep, fish, horses, emus, ducks and other birds. We love animals and nature and don't mind looking after plants and gardens as well. We have also learned a thing or two about pool maintenance over these last few years! We have looked after pets with medical conditions and have experience with administering medication. We are non-smoking, clean people, quick learners and love to look after and care for a variety of animals!

Emmelie and Sijmen were wonderful house sitters. They took care of our 4 year old staffy while we were away and kept in contact with us the entire time, always sending photos and updates. We came back to a clean house and a happy dog. We will definitely use them again in the future. Highly recommend.

Emmelie and Sijmen are very reliable, friendly, competent and mature housesitters. Our pets were in very good hand, the house was left very tidy and clean and they even cooked for us the day we came back! we certainly recommend them and we will certainly ask them to come back next time we go on holiday.

Emmelie and Sijmen were dream house sitters for us. They looked after our house, garden and dog Luna like it was their own! Luna fell in love with them both so much that she was sad when they left!

Emmelie & Sijmen are a wonderful young couple who fell in love with our Cobberdogs and the girls with them. After several repeat sits they are sadly, for us, moving on to greater adventures in our wonderful country. Travel safely and enjoy the roads ahead. Hope you have many more sits as wonderful as ours.

Emmelie and Sijmen are lovely people and excellent housesitters. Our cats loved their calm personalities, and Emmelie and Sijmen were really easy going when our plans changed. Can't thank you enough for looking after all the animals so well, and also watering the plants! It was summer so there was a fair bit of work - much appreciated!
Lovely house sitters! Very thorough and systematic with their approach to doing the animal and garden chores. Communication was good when organising and during the stay, and we enjoyed getting to know them a little over dinner before we left. Emmelie and Sijmen were flexible when our plans had to change slightly and we needed to come home a day earlier than expected.

We were very happy to have our free range rabbit cared for, as well as our house respected and left in great condition. Communication was easy, especially considering they traveled quite a distance on public transport to get to us. We'd recommend them to anyone looking for a house sitter :)
