Doc Dolittle (Friendly Animal Lover)

52, Postie, (former Motor Mechanic, Elevator Engineer, farm hand(Practicing travel photography)

Hi, my name is Brett,
I'm an easy going, happy go lucky, tidy, reliable, responsible and capable animal lover. I don't mind getting my hands dirty around the yard, or repairing things, whilst respecting the owners property & wishes. I have been house sitting around Brisbane now since December 2016.

I have been living in Brisbane for the past 19 years, and working for Australia Post for the last 17 years, (A Police background check is required to hold this position). Contract me and I will send my most recent referees details if you wish to contacted them.

The profile photos are of my sisters dogs and cat. Which I mind regularly, along with my nephew.
I would be more than happy to provide as many personal and work references as you would like, when asked.

Thanks, Brett.

'A little extra information below if required. No need to read beyond this point unless you enjoy pointless novels.'

I'm reliable, very easy going, very tidy & as honest as the day is long. Even if I do say so myself (though my Mother has mentioned it once or twice). I'm a non smoking, non drug taking friend of the animal World. I don't mind a bit of gardening, I've had my own herb and veggie patch for years. Music is a passion, and I still play in a band with workmates doing the odd gig about the place, every now and then. Nothing too serious, mainly for fun. Photography is another passion I'm trying to master. I love travel and meeting new and interesting people.

I was raised on a farm growing cereal and fodder crops in the Bush of N.S.W. (Baan Baa). Working in every aspect of farming. I grew up surrounded by animals, from dogs, cats, cattle, sheep, pigs, chickens, horses, bees. You name it, I've had something to do with most animals. I'm a qualified mechanic by trade, working in the field for 6-7 years in Narrabri, N.S.W., and surrounds. I am also a part trained welder, doing 2 years of a 3 year course. I worked in the England for 5 years in 2 separate stints, in many and varied occupations. For the most part as an elevator engineer (3 years). Installing Lifts for KONE LIFTS, all over London. The rest of the time was spent travelling Europe and working as a handyman, doing building maintenance throughout London. Anything from plumbing to electrical work, etc. I spent 3 years on Fitzroy Island (Off Cairns QLD),working on a Tiger and Banana Prawn Hatchery, with a 4 month break in between driving right around Australia, and a month working in a Bakery in Sydney along the way. My roles on Fitzroy Island included, the ordering of food and materials required for the staff, delivered by barge weekly. Which I would unload and deliver by forklift. Others roles were concreting, welding, building fences, sheds, and the running and maintenance of the generators for the electricity. Which provided the electricity to the house and hatchery. To provide consistent temperature and water quality to the livestock. I was also involved in the handling, harvesting and transporting of the prawns via truck up and down the East Coast as far South as Yamba, N.S.W. I spent 6 months helping set up a prawn farm/hatchery, building sheds, plumbing, and feeding the prawns on a Sugar Cane farm at Yatala, QLD. I also worked in America for a couple of months, landscaping in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, to help fund my travels for 8 months around the U.S. and Canada (Where I helped out on a friends Cattle farm near Estevan, Saskatchewan). I worked on a Cotton farm at Merah North, N.S.W. for almost 3 years in all areas of cropping. Including irrigation, harvesting & maintenance of machinery and equipment. Also going back to do so some seasonal work, operating the cotton pickers to help out now an then. In my younger years, between doing all this I played and sang in a Pub Rock covers band for 3 years. We played all over regional and coastal areas of N.S.W. From Port Macquarie to Lightening Ridge, Cobar and everywhere in between. Every weekend, all bar 3 I reckon.
I can turn my hand to pretty much anything. I would consider myself a handy person to have around. (Feel like I'm going for a job interview). Ha ha!

I was schooled at an Agricultural College, a boarding school on the outskirts of Sydney (St.Gregory's College, Campbelltown). Which is also a dairy farm, where we took turns to help in the mustering, milking and cleaning of the equipment. I've worked with all farm animals, feeding, medicating, artificial inseminating, incubating and hatching chickens in my room at one point. As well as the grooming and training of award winning steers, to be led and shown at the Royal Easter Show in Sydney. I Also helped one of my school teachers with the training of his racing greyhounds. I worked with the farm machinery, from, motorbikes, tractors, 10 tonne tippers, chain saws in the logging of dead trees for fire wood, jack hammers and road rollers. which we used on the weekends to build the 2 km tar road to our school. All this being said, I've never had a problem with animals & they've never had one with me. I've had several dogs of my own over the years, as well as 2 Guinea Pigs & 4 Goldfish.

I'm in transition at the moment. Doing a lot of travel to improve my travel photography. My trips in the last 5 years have been to Cambodia, Myanmar, Thailand, Mexico and Cuba. More recently I have just returned from Costa Rica and Mexico again, October 2023. I've decided to travel longer term and would like to focus on my photography more. House sitting really suits me at this point in my life. I have packed up my house and I'm storing my items with family & friends.

Thanks for reading my spiel, hope to be looking after your little critters while you're are away real soon,

Brett.

Highly recommend Brett. He looked after our dog & house while we were overseas. We were unfortunately delayed a week longer than planned & Brett was able to extend the housesit to help us out. He was responsive & flexible. Thanks Brett.

LISA (Holland Park West QLD, Dec 2022 - 1 week 1 day)
Brett was a fabulous house sitter and looked after our Labrador and two indoor cats who were all very happy and healthy when we arrived home after 2.5 weeks in Antarctica and South America. It was great knowing they were being so well cared for when we were so far away from home and sometimes uncontactable. When we arrived home our house was immaculately clean, which was much appreciated after 24 hours of travel. We would definitely recommend Brett to other people looking for a reliable ... MORE

KATE (Annerley QLD, Mar 2023 - 2.5 weeks)
Once again, Brett brought his A game. My house was clean, neat and tidy. Sheets and towels all washed and floors shining. I honestly cannot recommend Brett more highly. Just don't use him when I need him again.

ABIGAIL (Morningside QLD, Oct 2021 - 4 days)
Sorry Brett, This has been overlooked until now. Brett was tidy and punctual and communicated well. My cats had never had a male in the house before, but all were quite happy, calm and well fed. Brett left the house clean and tidy, and I wouldn't hesitate to offer him another sit in the future.

SANDRA (Wynnum QLD, Feb 2021 - 1 week - 2 of 2 endorsements from this owner )
I have no hesitation recommending Brett. My precious pooch clearly loved going on adventures with him. There was no requirement of Brett to mow the grass area in my courtyard but he did that twice for which I am very thankful given you can "watch it grow" this time of year. When there's a chance of travelling away again I will definitely be in contact with Brett to see if he is available to house sit. Thank you Brett - you made it possible to precious spend time with my daughter in Geelong ... MORE

JULIA (Yeronga QLD, Dec 2020 - 1 week 4 days)
Brett looked after my 2 dogs, house and plants. Communicated well, house was tidy and dogs were relaxed and happy.

PAIGE (Thorneside QLD, Jun 2020 - 1 week 6 days)
Brett house sat for us for 3 weeks. It's the first time we've used the service and we were a little nervous using it, but we really lucked out with Brett. He was easy going, considerate, and trustworthy. Our dog Bo was well looked after (and spoiled) and so was our home and garden. If anything, I think my dog has been a little sad since he left! We couldn't have been happier with him as our house sitter.

ARIANNE (Tarragindi QLD, Aug 2019 - 3 weeks)
Brett was fantastic from the first email through to end of the sit. Our dogs loved him and they were happy and well on our return. The house was spotless too. As first time users of Aussie House sitting we are very happy and highly recommend Brett.

JUSTINE (Ashgrove QLD, May 2019 - 3 weeks)
Brett did an amazing job of taking care of our elderly, fussy siamese cat. Harvey was well looked after as was our gardens and outdoor areas. Our home was amazingly clean on our return home - it was a wonderful return after our time away. I hope to be able to have Brett housesit for us again in the future and I have not problem in recording Brett for any housesitting adventures in the future. Regards Judy and Geoff

JUDY (Heritage Park QLD, Mar 2019 - 2 weeks 4 days)

NICOLAS (Dutton Park QLD, Feb 2019 - 4 days)
Thanks guys, was a pleasure. Easy pair to look after.
We will definitely be using Brett again for our house sitting. He lefts our house immaculate and fed all three of our cats. He was lovely to meet and his references all recommended him. This was our first time using a house sitter, and it was a big step for us. But I am so glad we did and we chose someone like Brett.

SHAKIRA (Jindalee QLD, Dec 2018)
No rating I can recommend Brett for any house sit. It was a short housesit and he was super efficient with the cat when it suddenly became ill overnight. He contacted me wanting to take it to the vet but it had a miraculous recovery after spending the night with him in bed.
JENNY (Mount Gravatt East QLD, Apr 2018 - 2 weeks 5 days)
No rating Brett did an excellent job of looking after our house,2 dogs and 2 cats when we went away. He is a modest man and we had no issues to deal with on our return. I highly recommend Brett for any house/pet sitting you require.
STEVE & SUE (Logan Village QLD, Apr 2018 - 1 week 5 days)
No rating We had Brett to house sit our apartment and look after our dog for 5 weeks. He is a responsible guy that keeps the apartment clean and tidy. He brings our dog for walks and also to the seaside for fun! My boy had a whale of a time under Brett's care. We will definitely approach him again should we need any house sits again. I am also happy to have a chat if anyone needs to know more about our experience.
KEVYL (Coorparoo QLD, Nov 2017 - 1 month 1 week)
No rating Brett has housesit my unit and very spoilt cat a couple of times. He is honest, easygoing and very reliable. When he books a housesit, he always follows through. I highly recommend Brett for any potential housesits and would welcome him back into my home again without hesitation. Thankyou. Debbie Coorparoo

JANINE WELDON (Cleveland QLD, Sep 2017 - 1 week 4 days)
No rating Brett has just completed a 3 week housesit for me and I would like to thank him for the care he has taken of the house and garden. He has made a great job of keeping my lawn and plants alive through the extreme heat in Qld and we returned to a lovely clean house and two very relaxed and happy dogs. Brett is quiet, assured and very competent and I would be happy to recommend his services.
SALLY (Hillcrest QLD, Jan 2017)
No rating Brett was brilliant; a perfect house sitter who is tidy, quite & considerate, self managed, happy to show initiative & get jobs done around the house - even ones he didn't have to do. Brett looked after my garden & pool & they look better than when I left. He took special care of our furry family members. I would be more than happy for Brett to house sit for me anytime & have no hesitation in recommending him to anyone.
