52, Postie, (former Motor Mechanic, Elevator Engineer, farm hand(Practicing travel photography)
Hi, my name is Brett,
I'm an easy going, happy go lucky, tidy, reliable, responsible and capable animal lover. I don't mind getting my hands dirty around the yard, or repairing things, whilst respecting the owners property & wishes. I have been house sitting around Brisbane now since December 2016.
I have been living in Brisbane for the past 19 years, and working for Australia Post for the last 17 years, (A Police background check is required to hold this position). Contract me and I will send my most recent referees details if you wish to contacted them.
The profile photos are of my sisters dogs and cat. Which I mind regularly, along with my nephew.
I would be more than happy to provide as many personal and work references as you would like, when asked.
Thanks, Brett.
'A little extra information below if required. No need to read beyond this point unless you enjoy pointless novels.'
I'm reliable, very easy going, very tidy & as honest as the day is long. Even if I do say so myself (though my Mother has mentioned it once or twice). I'm a non smoking, non drug taking friend of the animal World. I don't mind a bit of gardening, I've had my own herb and veggie patch for years. Music is a passion, and I still play in a band with workmates doing the odd gig about the place, every now and then. Nothing too serious, mainly for fun. Photography is another passion I'm trying to master. I love travel and meeting new and interesting people.
I was raised on a farm growing cereal and fodder crops in the Bush of N.S.W. (Baan Baa). Working in every aspect of farming. I grew up surrounded by animals, from dogs, cats, cattle, sheep, pigs, chickens, horses, bees. You name it, I've had something to do with most animals. I'm a qualified mechanic by trade, working in the field for 6-7 years in Narrabri, N.S.W., and surrounds. I am also a part trained welder, doing 2 years of a 3 year course. I worked in the England for 5 years in 2 separate stints, in many and varied occupations. For the most part as an elevator engineer (3 years). Installing Lifts for KONE LIFTS, all over London. The rest of the time was spent travelling Europe and working as a handyman, doing building maintenance throughout London. Anything from plumbing to electrical work, etc. I spent 3 years on Fitzroy Island (Off Cairns QLD),working on a Tiger and Banana Prawn Hatchery, with a 4 month break in between driving right around Australia, and a month working in a Bakery in Sydney along the way. My roles on Fitzroy Island included, the ordering of food and materials required for the staff, delivered by barge weekly. Which I would unload and deliver by forklift. Others roles were concreting, welding, building fences, sheds, and the running and maintenance of the generators for the electricity. Which provided the electricity to the house and hatchery. To provide consistent temperature and water quality to the livestock. I was also involved in the handling, harvesting and transporting of the prawns via truck up and down the East Coast as far South as Yamba, N.S.W. I spent 6 months helping set up a prawn farm/hatchery, building sheds, plumbing, and feeding the prawns on a Sugar Cane farm at Yatala, QLD. I also worked in America for a couple of months, landscaping in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, to help fund my travels for 8 months around the U.S. and Canada (Where I helped out on a friends Cattle farm near Estevan, Saskatchewan). I worked on a Cotton farm at Merah North, N.S.W. for almost 3 years in all areas of cropping. Including irrigation, harvesting & maintenance of machinery and equipment. Also going back to do so some seasonal work, operating the cotton pickers to help out now an then. In my younger years, between doing all this I played and sang in a Pub Rock covers band for 3 years. We played all over regional and coastal areas of N.S.W. From Port Macquarie to Lightening Ridge, Cobar and everywhere in between. Every weekend, all bar 3 I reckon.
I can turn my hand to pretty much anything. I would consider myself a handy person to have around. (Feel like I'm going for a job interview). Ha ha!
I was schooled at an Agricultural College, a boarding school on the outskirts of Sydney (St.Gregory's College, Campbelltown). Which is also a dairy farm, where we took turns to help in the mustering, milking and cleaning of the equipment. I've worked with all farm animals, feeding, medicating, artificial inseminating, incubating and hatching chickens in my room at one point. As well as the grooming and training of award winning steers, to be led and shown at the Royal Easter Show in Sydney. I Also helped one of my school teachers with the training of his racing greyhounds. I worked with the farm machinery, from, motorbikes, tractors, 10 tonne tippers, chain saws in the logging of dead trees for fire wood, jack hammers and road rollers. which we used on the weekends to build the 2 km tar road to our school. All this being said, I've never had a problem with animals & they've never had one with me. I've had several dogs of my own over the years, as well as 2 Guinea Pigs & 4 Goldfish.
I'm in transition at the moment. Doing a lot of travel to improve my travel photography. My trips in the last 5 years have been to Cambodia, Myanmar, Thailand, Mexico and Cuba. More recently I have just returned from Costa Rica and Mexico again, October 2023. I've decided to travel longer term and would like to focus on my photography more. House sitting really suits me at this point in my life. I have packed up my house and I'm storing my items with family & friends.
Thanks for reading my spiel, hope to be looking after your little critters while you're are away real soon,
Brett.
