Thank you so much for this service! It saved us a small fortune in cat hotel fees, our house and garden were well-maintained and most importantly our 3 cats were happy and content! Our sitters were the best fit for us and did a wonderful job! We've told all our friends about this website and we will definitely use it in future. Thanks again! Marita

We would like you to know that we are delighted with the Aussie House Sitters website. We signed up as house sitters on your site in October of this year. Within an hour of joining we applied for a house sit and were short listed, and we have been appointed. The first day we appeared on the site we received a phone call enquiry, and in the next couple of days received a couple more enquiries by phone. We have had more approaches from house owners through your site in the last three months than we have had from the other sites over a period of two years. We think you are doing a great job! Daniel and Jeanie

House Sitting in Tasmania

House sitting and Pet minding in Tasmania, Australia. The image is a beautiful mountain stream.

Tasmania is one of those secretly wonderful destinations. Don't tell anyone, but it's a place of breath-taking beauty, artisan food, colonial history and wild, untouched wilderness.

The Apple Isle is also now home to MONA, the art gallery that has changed all the rules and which has put Hobart on the map internationally as a place to visit. Tasmania should be on every house sitters list, a little harder to get to but really hard to leave. Check it out.

HOUSE SITTING AROUND TASMANIA (TAS)

The southeastern island state of Tasmania is not as populated as other Australian states but it is still home to many opportunities for house sitting. Here are some of the best places to go in Tasmania for house sitting.

The most populated city in Tasmania is the capital of Hobart. This southeastern city is one that is popular among house sitters for its nightlife. Among the nightlife options in this area include the many bars and clubs in the Salamanca region of the city. The Derwent Entertainment Centre is home to many major concerts.

Launceston, which is in the northern part of Tasmania, is another place to check out. Many of the homes available for house sitting are historic buildings dating back to the nineteenth century. Launceston is an area that is popular for its Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery, a museum that is popular for its large art collection.

Devonport is also great for house sitters. This northern city is home to the Devonport Mall, a major outdoor shopping centre.

Don’t forget when going to Tasmania for house sitting purposes to look into the transit options in the state. Catch a train for sightseeing like the West Coast Wilderness Railway. Visit the Salamanca Markets on Saturdays in Hobart and the Cataract Gorge in Launy and Devonport's home of the Spirit of Tasmania. Transport options for Tassie include hire cars, found at most airports and major towns, and the statewide bus service Redline

*FREE: House sitting is usually free, for both sitter and house owner, although this is completely up to the individuals. There are usually some costs that need to be covered by either the sitter or the house owner e.g. electricity, phone usage, vet fees etc. How these costs are handled needs to be agreed before the sit begins. House sitters pay a single annual membership fee, while house owners pay nothing to advertise their house or to contact sitters.
