Just wanted to thank you for your great website. We advertised for a house-sitter at quite short notice, but were amazed at the quantity & quality of the respondents. Our experience with sitters we got could not have been better. We came home to happy dogs, a clean house & two new-found friends. Thanks once again, we will definitely do this again. Cheers, Alison & Chris

House Sitting in Northern Territory

House and Pet Sitting in the Northern Territory, Australia. The image is an aerial view of Uluru.

Is it cliched to have a photo of Uluru to represent the Northern Territory? Yes. Is there another more powerful image? Hard to say.

The Northern Territory is a magnificent, remote place with destinations that are some of the oldest and most inspiring that you'll ever experience. Katherine Gorge, Alice Springs, Kakadu... and of course, Uluru. It's a wild, wonderful place. Darwin is the capital and it has a unique character forged by the monsoonal climate, the remoteness and many other features that make it an unforgettable place to House Sit. You'll never, never know... (an old promotional tag-line).

For those who are looking into house sitting in different parts of Australia but want to do it in a more peaceful surrounding the Northern Territory is a great place to go to for house sitting tasks.

A majority of people living in the Northern Territory live in the capital city of Darwin. This city is located on the Timor Sea and is popular among house sitters for its beaches. These beaches are great for pet sitters who need to walk dogs that they are taking care of. The George Brown Darwin Botanic Gardens is an especially popular attraction for people in the city to check out.

Thanks to the quick growth of Darwin, a city that has been growing in its population by a few percentage points each year, more new homes are being built. The opportunities for house sitting will surely increase in Darwin over time.

The town of Palmerston, which is closer to the northwestern part of the state, is also noted for its growing population. Many new suburbs are available for house sitting including the suburbs of Gunn and Rosebery.

The southern city of Alice Springs is a great place for house sitters looking to work in a desert environment. Alice Springs is home to many neighhourhoods that American citizens live in. This is thanks to the employment of Americans at the Pine Gap satellite tracking station that is run by the governments of the United States and Australia.

*FREE: House sitting is usually free, for both sitter and house owner, although this is completely up to the individuals. There are usually some costs that need to be covered by either the sitter or the house owner e.g. electricity, phone usage, vet fees etc. How these costs are handled needs to be agreed before the sit begins. House sitters pay a single annual membership fee, while house owners pay nothing to advertise their house or to contact sitters.
